What this is
Thirteen sounds made for falling asleep: five real field recordings (rain, sea, night forest, stream, campfire - the cards tagged "REC") plus music box, harp, night rain, night sea, a valley breeze, pink noise, brown noise and wind chimes. Play one, or layer them - field rain with a little music box on top is the favourite. The synthesised ones are slow pentatonic phrases and slow airs: no drums, no sudden movements, nothing to scare the sleepiness away.
The synthesised ones work like the white-noise page: computed by the browser, nothing to download, instant start, no loop seam. The five cards tagged "REC" are real field recordings, fetched only when you tap them and cut into seamless loops. The starry sky is always moving - louder means brighter stars and more meteors, and when it all goes quiet you are left with a soft twinkle.
The timer is for after you drift off: at the mark the sound fades over a full minute and stops, so a sudden silence never wakes you. Set it, lock the phone, and where the browser allows it the sound keeps going until the timer ends.
How to use it
- Tap a card to start or stop it. Layer several, each with its own volume.
- Pick 15 / 30 / 60 minutes for the timer; it fades out on its own. Off cancels the timer.
- Pause keeps every layer muted until you come back; Stop all clears the mix.
- Keep the media volume low - too loud and it keeps you awake.
If sleep still will not come, skip the counting-sheep part, get up for some warm water and come back - the page will wait.
